The EIP on AHA

European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA)

The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP AHA) was launched in 2011 by the European Commission with the purpose of fostering innovation and digital transformation in the field of active and healthy ageing. Partners from across Europe have been involved in the design, piloting, implementation and scale-up of good practices in the effort of pursuing the EIP on AHA Triple Win for Europe:
  • Improving health and quality of life of Europeans with a focus on older people.
  • Supporting long term sustainability and efficiency of health and social care systems.
  • Enhancing the competitiveness of business opportunities in new markets.
    •   The EIP on AHA comprises 2 distinct, but related strands – Reference Sites (Regions or Municipalities); and Action Groups.

    Reference Sites

    Reference Sites are inspirational ecosystems, delivering creative and workable solutions that improve the lives and health of older people and the whole community, in a framework of equity and social sustainability. Reference Sites are regions, cities, that bring together key stakeholders within the Quadruple Helix Model – public administrative authorities including health and care providers, research, industry, and civil society to focus on a comprehensive, innovation-based approach to active and healthy ageing. They offer concrete examples of their positive impact in this field. Stakeholder partners in a Reference Site are leading regional organisations committed to investing in innovation for active and healthy ageing and supporting the transfer and scaling-up of that innovation locally, regionally, nationally, and across Europe. There are currently 103 EIP on AHA Reference Sites across 24 member States.

    Action Groups

    An Action Group is a community of partners who are committed to work on specific issues related to active and healthy ageing. They do this by sharing their knowledge and expertise with their peers, increasing the added value of their national and local experience, and identifying gaps that need to be fulfilled at European level. Six EIP on AHA Action Groups were established involving stakeholders ranging from academia to public authorities, large industry and SMEs, health and care organisations, investors and innovators, end users and patients’ associations. They cover the local, regional, national and European levels. The groups work on the basis of coherent Action Plans which identify overarching priorities, objectives and common activities within the scope of the EIP Strategic Implementation Plan. The 6 Action Groups are:
  • Adherence Prescription
  • Falls Prevention
  • Lifespan Health Promotion and Prevention of Age-Related Frailty and Disease
  • Integrated Care
  • Independent Living Solutions
  • Age Friendly Environment
    The NECTAR project emerged from the Lifespan Health Promotion and Prevention of Age-Related Frailty and Disease Action Group. Partners on the project were also members of this Action Group and their experience has been translated into NECTAR.
    • This link between the NECTAR project and the EIP on AHA Action Group on Lifespan Health Promotion and Prevention of Age-Related Frailty and Disease Action will help facilitate partners in disseminating the project deliverables and outputs across Europe. It is seen that this will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the project through the scaling up and adoption of new Chef CGE personas and Chef training curricula.
